On December 10, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is led by co-founder Daniel Barenboim in a concert marking Human Rights Day at the United Nations in Geneva.
The Divan was appointed a United Nations Global Advocate for Cultural Understanding by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in February 2016. The Secretary-General states that the Divan is a “testimony to the power of music to break down barriers and build bridges between communities.”
Speakers from the UN – including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, UN Council for Human Rights President Choi Kyonglim and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Said Ra’ad Al Hussein – will open the concert, which spotlights Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with cellist Kian Soltani and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante.
The event will be broadcast on Medici.TV and My Fidelio
