This summer, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra returned to Buenos Aires for its annual workshops and residency and performed around the world in Argentina, Chile, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
The residency kicked off with two piano duo recitals featuring Divan co-founder Daniel Barenboim and longtime collaborator Martha Argerich.
The orchestra took the stage at the Teatro Colón, joining Barenboim and Argerich for Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Also in the spotlight was the music of Ravel and Berg.
Maestro Barenboim joined violinist Michael Barenboim and cellist Kian Soltani for an evening of chamber music that featured Beethoven’s Piano Trios.
In concerts across Buenos Aires, the Divan performed Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and, with soloists Kian Soltani and Miriam Manasherov, Richard Strauss’s Don Quixote…
…and there were plenty of opportunities to spend time around the city with fellow musicians!
On to Santiago, where the orchestra made its Chile premiere.
And then, to Europe. Back at one of the orchestra’s favorite places: the Waldbühne Berlin!
The Divan returned to the Lucerne Festival for Ravel, Shostakovich, Berg, Strauss, and Tchaikovsky.
The tour closed at the Salzburger Festspiele with Maestro Barenboim and Martha Argerich.
Until next year!
